Refurbished monitors: are they worth it?
Display panels age slowly. A 3-year-old IPS monitor sold as refurbished often performs almost identically to a new one, at a substantial discount.
What to inspect
- Dead pixels — Xetrix tests on a black + colour-cycle screen and rejects panels with stuck pixels.
- Backlight bleed — minor bleed is normal on IPS; significant bleed is excluded.
- Burn-in — a non-issue on IPS, important on OLEDs.
- Ports — verified HDMI, DisplayPort, USB hub function.
Good refurb candidates
Dell P-series (P2422H, P2722H), HP Z-series, Lenovo ThinkVision T-series — all built for office use and tend to age well.
